From 1978 to 1980, Greenawalt was enrolled at Berklee College of Music. Greenawalt, who was a member of the “Sarcastic Punk No Wave Death Dco” band The Dark, formed in 1980. The Dark gained a loyal East Coast following and attracted the attention of Ric Ocasek (lead singer/guitarist of The Cars). Ocasek produced The Dark’s second EP Darkworld in 1982. The single “Judy” became a hit in Boston.
Greenawalt performed his Beatles Complete On Ukulele Concert on December 8, 2004. He played all 185 Beatles songs on ukulele, along with 60 other guests singers, at Elizabeth Streb’s SLAM Action Lab in Brooklyn. He performed the same show at Brooklyn’s Spike Hill in 2008. Greenawalt performed the marathon show at Brooklyn Bowl three more times, and at SXSW, Austin three years later (2010, 2011, 2012). Greenawalt gave a cut version of the show near San Francisco at the McEvoy Ranch Harvest Festival, November 2010. Nellie McKay and The Naked Brothers Band, The Pierces and Adam Green were among the performers at these concerts. Greenawalt was diagnosed in October 2010 with laryngeal carcinoma. In 2013, he suffered a recurrence. Greenawalt lost his speaking voice in November 2013 after he received successful treatment from Dr Michael Pitman, New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Greenawalt was forced to remain silent during this time. He then came up with the idea for 366 Visions.
