Sargent was a player with Scott Gallagher Missouri, a U.S. Soccer Development Academy club in St. Louis, Missouri. Following his performance in the 2015 Nike International Friendlies, he trained for two weeks at Sporting Kansas City in the summer of 2016. The MLS club obtained the player’s rights to purchase in the sense that St. Louis was part of the Sporting Kansas City’s own homegrown player territory. In October of that season, Sargent went on to spend a full week of training session in the Dutch soccer club PSV Eindhoven. In January of 2017, following being named to U20 for the United States U20 team, Sargent was a part of the training squad at German FC Schalke 04. On the 7th of November, 2017 Sargent was the first player to receive a senior call-up to an friendly match against Portugal. This made him just the one American player ever to appear in the U-17, U-20, and MNT camp within that same year. On May 28, 2018, Sargent earned his first cap for the senior squad in a friendly match against Bolivia in which he scored the first goal of his international career. Sargent became the fourth-youngest athlete scoring for United States. United States, until Timothy Weah (aged just two days older that Sargent) got his goal a few minutes later.
