Edwards began his career as an announcer for a local radio station in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. He then moved to Cleveland and worked as an announcer for WJW-TV. In the late 1990s, he was recruited by Microsoft to provide the voice of Clippy, the animated paperclip that would be featured in all versions of Microsoft Office from 1997 to 2003. Edwards' voice was also used in other Microsoft products, including Windows 95, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.
