Chien Tung-ming Biography

Chien Tung-ming is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on June 4, 1951 in Pingtung, Taiwan. As of June 1, 2023, Chien has a net worth approximately $5 Million. Chien has co-authored an amendment to Chien co-authored an amendment to Mountain Slope Conservation and Utilization Act in 2012, which caused a lot of criticism from indigenous rights groups. The legislation contained a provision which specified how long an aboriginal person was required to keep their land before they could legally sell the land. Chin, Kung, and Chien together as Sra Kacaw Liao Kuo-tung and Lin Cheng-er, all aborigines considered that the five-year period of ownership stipulated by this law is discriminatory and unimportant since the law already provided that aboriginal land can be sold only to another aboriginal. Chien wrote a second law relating to the reform of aboriginal land in the year 2015 that made it legal for aboriginals to receive compensation in the form of monetary payments on their land within conservation zones because they are not permitted to develop areas designated as protected territories.

Chien Tung-ming (Chinese: Jian Dong Ming Pinyin: Jian Dongming ; born 4 June 1951) is a Taiwanese Paiwan politician. Also known as the name of the Paiwan language Uliw Qaljupayare, he was a member of in the Highland Aborigine district in 2008 until 2020 along with Kao Chin Su-mei and Kao Wen-chi.

Chien has stated that Chien has described the Aboriginal Basic Act as ineffective. The law, which was passed in 2005, requires that any other legislation pertaining to Aboriginal affairs must be in place by the year 2008. In 2005, the Democratic Progressive Party administration in power at the time presented a variety of proposals however, the majority of them were blocked by the legislature. Furthermore the Council of Indigenous Peoples had blocked four amendments before the deadline.

Chien was elected for the first time as a member of his position in the Legislative Yuan in 2008 with 26.86 percent of the vote in the Highland Aborigine three-member district. Prosecutors from Kaohsiung were able to sue Chien on February 12, 2012 in connection with an investigation into the purchase of votes in the 2008 elections. 3 of Chien’s staff members were in prison, however, Chien himself was released in 2013. Another charge of vote-buying against Chien however, the time this time from his home Pingtung County, surfaced during the 2016 elections for the legislature. The case in 2016 was referred before Taichung District Court, where the prosecution sought to revoke Chien’s victory in the election. Chien along with 57 others including his campaign personnel as well as a few Pingtung County residents, were charged during March. Chien was indicted along with 57 others. Pingtung District Court issued the first verdict in this case on June 2017 which sentenced Chien for five years and five half years in prison. In the wake of the verdict of guilty, Chien became the first Taiwanese legislator to be suspended from office due to legal proceedings. In January 2019, after a court appeal Chien’s punishment was reduced and he was cleared in April of the same following year. The court was the Kaohsiung branch of the Taiwan High Court. Chien was not a candidate in the 2020 elections for legislature, and was succeeded by Wu Li-hua in the 2020 elections which contested the seat for the Democratic Progressive Party.
