Bruce Watson is one of the most popular and richest Canadian-Scottish guitarist who was born on February 12, 1956 in Timmins, Ontario, Canada. Watson’s great-grandfather was Horace Watson (1862-1930), pharmacist who in 1888, in Hobart had been married to Louisa Nee Keen (died in 1936) (sixth niece of Joseph Keen, inventor of Keen’s Curry) who was the most recent spouse of Robert Williamson. In 1899, and later in 1903 Horace recorded traditional songs in the language from an indigenous Tasmanian, Fanny Cochrane Smith. Horace as well as Louisa were the owners of Keen’s Curry. Keen’s Curry company.

In the year 1990, Watson released his debut album Politics, Sex and Religion. One of the songs, “Amazon”, was later performed by fellow folk musicians Blackwood, Eric Bogle, and Zamponistas along with several other artists across Europe as well as his home country of the United States. In May of that year the author released his first book songs of a Satirical Bloke, in collaboration with Canberra Times’ Mike Jackson and describing the author as “an academic with a wicked sense of humour”. In April 1994, he appeared in the National Folk Festival in Canberra along with Canberra Times’ reporter, Graham McDonald, describing his work as “dreadfully funny parodies”. The same year, he released the second studio album Real World: Songs of Life, Love & Laughter.

At the National Folk Festival in 2014 Watson the National Film and Sound Archive recorded a short version of the song on a wax cylinder, and this track is included on the 2017 album, Mosaic.

The song, Olegas, on the album Out My Window, tells the story of Lithuanian/Tasmanian conservationist and photographer Olegas Truchanas, who led the fight against the flooding of Lake Pedder by the Hydro Electric Commission and was influential in the development of Australia’s conservation movement. In 2013 the song was translated into Lithuanian for performance at a celebration of Truchanas’ birth, in his home town of Šiauliai, Lithuania. In June 2018, Bruce Watson visited Šiauliai, and participated in a concert at Truchanas’ former school, the Šiauliai Gymnasium (Lithuanian: Šiaulių Juliaus Janonio gimnazija), where he and the students performed various versions of the song.[CITATION]
