Bruce Moreland Biography

Bruce Moreland is one of the most popular and richest American musician who was born on January 22, 1959 in United States. Bruce “Ravens” Moreland (born on the 22nd of January, 1959) is a famous American musician and songwriter from the rock genre. He has performed with groups like Wall of Voodoo (with his brother Marc Moreland), The Weirdos and Nervous Gender as well as Concrete Blonde among others. Since 2011, his current band is called Ravens Moreland.

Following his brother’s death, Moreland focused on songwriting and producing the recordings of his own band Ravens Moreland; “Ravens” was to be his new nickname. After primarily playing bass and keyboards throughout his musical career, he switched to lead vocals and guitar in live performance while still playing bass and keyboards on many of the recordings. David Bianco, former producer of albums by Danzig, Ozzy Osbourne and The Damned, shares production credits on the first two Ravens Moreland albums Lock up Your Mothers and Sin Has a Soundtrack. Moreland self-produced their third album, Candy Bad and Pretty Things. An album released in the summer of 2011, The Dirt on You, was produced only on 12” vinyl. Ravens Moreland has featured drummers Brian Head, Jared Shavelson, Jarrod Alexander. and currently Linda LeSabre formerly of Death Ride 69 and My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult. The band has also featured Chas Stopnik and mainstay Tara Belle on Bass.

In the latter part of 1977 Bruce as well as Marc became founders of the famous post-punk group Wall of Voodoo, who performed their first concert in 1978 when they opened with The Cramps in their Save The Masque benefit show in Los Angeles. Bruce would join the band and leave Wall of Voodoo, recording on their four albums. He also mentions emotional instability, and hospital stays during the time he was absent in the course of that. On May 25, 1995 a few instances of his experiences using methadone and heroin were documented in an article in Hustler magazine titled “Turning Junkies Into Junkies: America’s Methadone Treatment Program” by Scott Schalin.

Bruce Moreland and his brother Marc was born throughout the 1960s, in West Covina, a suburb located in the San Gabriel Valley region of Southern California. As teens, they modeled themselves after Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop and wore spiked hair as well as clothes that resembled dresses. They began playing music. While at West Covina High School, they founded their own “space glitter” rock band called Capt. Cosmos de Venus & The Sky People. Sky People also featured Randy Jones (singer) from Stormer and London, and Audie Desbrow, the drummer to come who will be a part of Great White.

The Moreland brothers quit The San Gabriel Valley in the late 1970s and began sleeping in a van that had been broken down in the area of Gower as well as Selma Street in Hollywood, performing with bands like The Dogs and Arthur “Killer” Kane up until Bruce moved to the new LA underground rock venue The Masque with Brendan Mullen. Bruce was known as “Bruce Barf” and would be the MC at the club’s nights of punk as well as introducing the early shows of The Germs, The Go-Go’s, The Dickies, The Skulls, The Weirdos (who Bruce joined as bassist in 1977) and many other notable Los Angeles punk bands. In Bruce’s time as a member of The Weirdos, they recorded songs like “I’m Not Like You” and “Teenage”. Bruce also performed show with brother Marc as part of The Skulls, as well as The Controllers.
